Empty Return Instructions

Keep Motor Carriers up to date on empty return activities
Using the eModal® Empty Return Instructions (ERI) module, Ocean Carriers & Terminal Operators can update their specific return instructions for Motor Carriers.

Ocean Carriers can participate directly by simply sending a standardized Excel file that is digitized and accepted into the application by eModal.

The potential to return an empty container, preferably just before the pickup of a loaded container to maximize driver and motor carrier efficiency, has become increasingly difficult as terminal congestion and time-specific truck appointments have increased. The eModal ERI feature was designed to simplify the process of a marine terminal informing the Motor Carrier community of availability to accept empties in such a way that more frequent updates can be shared and more dual-ended moves can be completed.

The above guide outlines how terminal can create and publish Empty Return Instructions (ERI) within the eModal Community Portal. These updates will enable community users and drivers to know when empties are allowed to be returned to a specific terminal or yard location, on a particular date, shift and by shipping line.

Vessel Schedules

Integrated within the eModal Community Portal
Vessel Schedule Data Field Template
eModal® Vessel Schedules within the eModal Community Portal also provide a central place for intermodal stakeholders to post and view vessel information by both calendar and list views.  Users can select the date and clock on the vessel name for additional information, such as ETA, ETD, ATA, ATD, First available, St/Rcv, St/Rcv Reefer, Cargo Cutoff, Reefer Cutoff, Worked Upon, Received OD, Received Hazmat.
